How does it work?
Medical microdermabrasion uses a highly controlled flow of fine, medical grade crystals (or specially designed crystal free disposable tips) to remove the dead, outermost layer of skin. At the same time the underlying dermis is also stimulated by the abrasion and vacuum which promotes new collagen therefore thickening the dermis of the skin combating the signs of ageing. This skin exfoliation process reveals the new, living skin cells that are soft, smooth and receptive to nutrients and cosmeceuticals.
Microdermabrasion can be used on all skin types and is usually performed on the face but it can also be used on the chest, back and shoulders.
What can I expect?
Following an initial consultation and if suitable for treatment, a medical questionnaire and consent is obtained and photographs taken of the areas to be treated. The skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepped for the procedure. The treatment itself is painfree. Post treatment cosmeceutical creams are applied to the treated area and aftercare advice is given.
This is an effective skin rejuvenation procedure that requires no downtime and is extremely popular because it is painless yet effective with minimal redness, swelling or irritation.
This treatment can also be combined with skin peels for maximum results.
Depending on the skin condition being treated a course of 4 to 8 treatments may be required 10 to 14 days apart.
