Wrinkle Relaxing Injections – Botulinum toxin A

If you would like to reduce the appearance of lines in the upper third of your face, while still maintaining expression, but having that fresher, more awake appearance wrinkle reducing injections (commonly known as Botox® injections) are the treatment of choice.

Since the late 1980’s Botulinum toxin A injections have been used to treat millions of patients worldwide and is the world’s most popular non surgical treatment for dynamic wrinkles. In 2002 Botox® was approved by the FDA to temporarily treat moderate to severe glabellar lines between the brows. This treatment has revolutionised the cosmetic industry due to its remarkable results combined with very few risks and no recovery time and approximately 11.8 million Botox® cosmetic treatments have been administered since 2002 in the United States.

Botulinum toxin A (a purified protein) is a prescription only medicine that is used to:

Improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines (glabellar)
Reduce the appearance of forehead lines and crows feet
Reduce bunny lines on the nose

There are various brands of botulinum toxin A including Botox®, Azzalure® and Bocouture®.

How Does it Work?

Anti-wrinkle injections temporarily relax the muscles therefore preventing further lines and wrinkles from forming. It can take between 3-14 days for the effect to take place and will last 3-4 months then gradually wears off. In time most patients results last longer following several treatments. Most people want a natural look rather than a frozen emotionless look and this is easily attained.

What Can I Expect?

Following an initial consultation and if suitable for treatment, a medical questionnaire and consent is obtained and photographs taken of the areas to be treated. The area is cleansed and the muscle action is assessed prior to wrinkle reducing injections being performed. This is relatively painless and takes approximately 10 – 15 mins after which you can return to work or other activities.

An appointment to return to the clinic 14 – 21 days after treatment is made to assess the results and if required a top up may be given
